‘The moon appeared in the sky a short while ago, high above the grounded ship, softly veiled, with barely a whisper of a presence, as I began my evening walk…’
Exhibition of Paintings
Spring 2024
An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny, County Donegal
From 15th March until 19th April 2024
There are three parts to the exhibition (although not arranged in strict sequence)-
(1) Lough Foyle
(2) North Inishowen and Malin Head
(3) West Donegal
(1) A section of the Lough Foyle shore and estuary, stretching from Moville Bay to Portadoras Bay in Shroove has become my main source of inspiration during my daily walks in the decade or so I have been living there.
The shore path is essentially a string of rocky outcrops interspersed with small sandy coves containing unusual and intriguing rock formations, which have provided inspiration for a series of small works from serene autumnal moonlit scenes to turbulent wintry storms.
(2) My North-West Inishowen scenes include the rugged, precipitous and sometimes desolate Atlantic coast at Malin Head, wild mountainous terrain at Gap of Mamore and Clonmany and the stony shores of Tullagh; as well as scenes of Castle Bridge at Buncrana, beside the aptly named Lough Swilly (Lake of Shadows) which lies to the west of our Peninsula.
(3) The West Donegal series, except for the painting of Arranmore Island, are all the result of one trip to Mount Errigal in the Autumn of 2020 and represent something of a departure from the coastal theme.
